Jogja
Yogyakarta also called as Jogja or Jogyakarta is the capital of Yogyakarta Special Region in Java, Indonesia. This city is named after the Indian city of Ayodhya from the Ramayana epic. Yogya means "suitable, fit, proper", and karta, "prosperous, flourishing". Yogyakarta served as the capital of Indonesia during the Indonesian National Revolution from 1945 to 1949. Yogyakarta is the most popular tourist destination on Java because of its proximity to the temples of Borobudur and Prambanan. This town is a hub of Javanese art and culture well known for javanese fine art such as batik, ballet, drama, music, poetry, and puppet shows.

Visa:

As on February 2016, Nationals (Including India) holding passport from several (click to see the list) countries and territories are eligible to enter and remain in Indonesia without a visa for 30 days. The visa free facility does not allow the change into other permits or visa extension.

Money Exchange:

Money Exchange can be found easily in Malioboro Street. We have stayed near Tugu Railway Station, very near to Malioboro Street and Found a Money Exchange (Mulia Money Changer) that offers best Rates in Yogyakarta. Approximate Value of 1 US Dollar will be around 13,400 Indonesian Rupiah (as on February 2016).

Food:

Even-though it's my second visit to Indonesia, I'm tasting Javanese food for the first time (My previous Indonesia trip was to Bali & Balinese food differs from Javanese). Searched for Top 10 Javanese food on Google & Struck to Nasi Goreng & Mie Goreng, It's really Yummy with right combination of spice.

Accomodation:

We booked a twin bedroom on Istana Batik Ratna Hotel thru www.agoda.com which comes below US$30 per night. Hotel room was clean, has hot shower with basic toiletries. This hotel has a little pool, Pool side Restaurant which serves free Buffet Breakfast. Hotel is clean and the overall stay was satisfactory. Plenty of Restaurants & shopping available in walkable distance from Hotel.

Too much time on Transit:
Must have excluded Jakarta from our travel list. There's nothing to speak about tourism in the capital of Indonesia. Wasted several hours in transit because of inclusion of Jakarta in the travel list. Started from India around 4:45pm and reached Yogyakarta around 4pm the next day, nearly 15 hours wasted in transit which includes Kuala lumpur & Jakarta. Every transit hour is expensive, which mainly includes food & beverages at airport. it's a lesson learned, have to avoid such things in future trips.

Places to Explore:
Planned to visit several places which includes Kraton Palace, Taman Sari Water Palace, Gerabah Kasongan (Handicrafts and Ceramic Village) & Prambanan Temple in Yogyakarta City. Then to explore Gua Maria Tritis & Pantai Seruni which are located in few hour drive distance from Yogyakarta. Our list also includes Borobudur (one of the must see places in Indonesia), Telaga Warna Lake View, Sikidang Crater, Arjuna Temple Complex (1st Hindu Temple built in Indonesia which dates back to 7th century) & Ketep Pass

Day 1
16.02.2016

We arrived Soekarno Hatta International Airport (Terminal 3), Jakarta around 8:00am. Immigration clearance in Jakarta seems simple, visa is not required for Indian citizens too. After spending too much time on domestic transit, we arrived at Adisucipto International Airport, Yogyakarta around 04:00pm.

Yogyakarta welcomes us with a rain, climate was cool when we arrived. After long & tiresome travel, decided to relax at hotel for the rest of the day

Arrived, Adisucipto International Airport, Yogyakarta
